Places to visit
The town of Chinon
The Royal Fortress of Chinon
The royal fortress of Chinon is located on a rocky spur overlooking the right bank of the Vienne River and the town. This medieval fortress, remarkable for its size, dominates the entire old town, which has developed below it, along its entire length, with its walls following the contour of the rocky spur.
Medieval quarter
An ancient fortified town on the banks of the Vienne, Chinon can be explored by strolling along its many narrow streets lined with beautiful half-timbered houses. Don't miss Rue Voltaire with its famous Maison Rouge, now located next to the Carroi-Musée, Chinon's art and history museum.
Véron Ecomuseum
In the heart of the Loire Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Véron Ecomuseum, recognised as a ‘Museum of France’, reveals the secrets of an exceptional region.
CHINON, land of vineyards
Chinon has something that other wines don't have. The humanism initiated by Rabelais is the ingredient that binds everything together. Opening a bottle of Chinon means drinking a ‘wine loyal to Rabelais’, the very essence of the appellation!
Music festivals
Numerous festivals and events take place throughout the year: Chinon en Jazz, Chinon en Fanfares, Voyages en Guitare, and more.
The châteaux
Welcome to a world-famous spot where most of the great châteaux of the Loire Valley are concentrated within a hundred kilometres! Amboise, Azay-le-Rideau, Chenonceaux, Chinon, Le Clos Lucé, Langeais, Loches, Villandry... Nearly fifty châteaux welcome you for much of the year. Lively, fun and cultural, the tours are suitable for everyone, whether you're with your family, as a couple or with friends.
The troglodyte valley of Les Goupillières
Experience the authenticity of the troglodytes in the Loire Valley. Don't miss the fabulous Sundays in Amélie, with a guided tour and a country meal of Fouées tourangelles (a local dish).
Maurice Dufresne Museum
A journey back in time for young and old alike, where you will discover more than 3,000 extraordinary inventions.
The Loire by Bike
The great châteaux of Amboise, the vineyards of Montlouis-sur-Loire, the pretty town of Tours, the gardens of Villandry, the châteaux of Langeais and Azay-le-Rideau, the royal fortress of Chinon...
